New Jumbo Grips – Will They Cure My Slice?
Just recently upgraded the grips on my Adams golf clubs — went with some jumbo Golf Pride blues, fitted at Drummond Golf in Woolloongabba. I’d heard the bigger grips are supposed to help prevent slicing, so I figured it was worth a crack.
Imaged sourced: https://www.golfpride.com/grips/Yesterday I took them out for their first real test at Boonah Golf Club. Monday was the first day carts were allowed back, which says a lot about the course conditions. The rough was truly rough — the kind that encourages you to stick to the fairway unless you’re up for a bit of bushwalking. Honestly, if Boonah was a racetrack, it’d be rated worse than dead. They could’ve handed out floaties with the scorecards!

Tee-off on the first — full of confidence — whack! Slight slice, straight toward the dam and into the thick stuff. Second hole? Same story. In the trees. Played a second ball... same again.
Third hole, I figured I’d straighten it out — whack! Out to the right, over the fence into the paddock. Played a second ball... hooked it left. Great, now we have slice and hook (it is a fine line between a draw or fade).
By the 5th I told myself to calm down and find some rhythm. Better strike, still a slight fade... but manageable.
Verdict: The jumbo grips feel great in the hands, and I reckon there's some improvement — but the slice hasn’t disappeared completely I definitely would not call it a fade yet. Wednesday a lesson to get some drills to improve constancy. Still, nothing beats getting out on the course and belting that little white ball around, especially on a Monday.
- Still deciding, should I join a club like Boonah or an online platform such as Future golf? Any feed back place in comments below.
